Document Summary

Direct behavioral assessment: what to record and how. In measuring behavior directly, six general characteristics should be considered: Topography of a response is the specific movements involved in making the response. Example: stokes, luiselli, and reed divided the movements of effective tackling in high school football into 10 components (head up, wrap arms around ball carrier"s thighs, etc) Picture prompts are sometimes useful for helping observers to identify variations in the topography of a response. 2 measures of the amount of a given behavior are frequency and duration. Frequency (rate) of behavior refers to the number of instances of a behavior that occur in a given period of time. Example: if wanting to improve on figure skating, then one might examine the frequency with which they performed various jumps and spins. He defined spin as spinning on one skate for at least 3 revolutions while maintaining a stationary position.
