Document Summary
When ant is infected, undergoes radical change in behavior and experience (abdomen turns red, no longer produces pheromones when attacked. Animals look like plants (katydids look like leaves) and plants look like animals (orchids have flowers resembling bees and wasps) Changes in genes (mutations): occur regardless of whether they would be useful to the individual. Genetic variation must affect individual"s probability of leaving offspring. Should be able to imagine a step-by-step scenario for evolution of thst trait, with each step raising fitness. E. g traits of one species that are useful to members of a second species: thorns act as home for ants, ants secrete nectar and produce protein for ants, ants protect thorns from herbivorous insects and mammals. Evolution as a change in the proportion of alleles (different forms of a gene) Every individual has two copies of each gene (can be identical or different)
