Document Summary

Ecology - the study of the factors determining the distribution and abundance of organisms. Distribution is the geographical range in which the species is found. Organisms will grow and survive best in places with certain combinations of. A large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e. g. , forest or tundra. These are different sets of characteristic organisms in places with different climates. Different biomes often develop different types of soil. Species range limits correspond to the boundaries between different biomes. The amounts and seasonality of temperature and precipitation determine the biomes. Some most basic rules of biomes: precipitation. More precipitation ---> taller vegetation, more species-rich, productive. True forests with tall trees forming closed canopies of foliage. Warmer places >>>>> bigger and more complex vegetation. Higher the latitude, colder the region (as its closer to the poles). Higher elevation also denotes a drop in temperature and the most extreme are tundra biomes: seasonality.
