Document Summary

All organisms occupy some trophic position within the food web. Plants: make their own from co2 - they are autotrophs (primary producers ) They constitute the first trophic level of a community. Second trophic level: herbivorous animals that eat plants. Third trophic level - carnivores that prey on herbivore are tertiary producer or secondary consumers. Omnivores: animals that consume from more than one trophic level. Detritivores (decomposers): organisms that extract their carbon from dead organisms. Heo the indestructible little bit of something moved from the abiotic world into the biotic world. Energy: it comes from the electromagnetic radiation from the sun, and leaves from beaming from the earth into the space. Matter: small amount of input from meteorites and cosmic dust, mostly closed system in which energy propels atoms through characteristic biogeochemical cycles that depend on their elemental chemistry. Energy occasionally recycled into organisms for biotic adventures.
