Karen symes: crime in canada, a 2014 victimization study suggested that 20% of all canadians are the victims of crime in a year, down from 25% in 2004. In only 31% of cases the 2014 survey did the victim reported the crime to the police: reasons for not vary, but often relate to seeing it as too minor to justify reporting or a personal matter. In 2016, over just 1. 9 million crimes were reported to the police. This a 28% decrease in crime reported since 2006. 4% other drugs: most crimes reported don"t result in charges. Majority of cases in which charges are laid are resolved without a trial and end in a finding of guilt. Plea bargaining, the prosecutor may withdraw some charges or take certain positions on sentence if the accused agrees to plead guilty. Because the accused may receive a more lenient sentence is he/she pleads guilty. In 2014/15, there were 328,028 cases completed in adult court.
