Document Summary

Made up of 2 major structures: cerebrum & cerebellum. Brain: tissue found within the skull that is responsible for behaviours. Cerebrum: (forebrain) consists of 2 virtually identical hemispheres, is responsible for most conscious behaviour: encases around the brainstem: responsible for most unconscious behaviours. Cerebellum: responsible for learning & coordinating skilled movements. Neurons in the brain communicate with: each other, sensory receptor in the skin, muscles, other internal body organs. Spinal chord: originates from base of brainstem through the canal in the backbone: most neuronal connections made through the spinal chord. Central nervous system: brain & spinal chord: encased in bone, central in. Peripheral nervous system: all processes involving neurons outside of. Embodied language: hypothesis that movements we, and others make, are central in communication. We understand each other not only through language, but also through body language. People found sensory deprivation unpleasant & some hallucinated. As if brain were trying to compensate for the lack of sensory input.
