20 views2 pages

Document Summary

The important role of zinc in transcription is suggested to influence growth in children, which can cause detrimental side effects to their health as they age. A randomized double-blinded controlled trial was conducted with 140 healthy children in grades 1-6 from thai schools. They were isolated into two groups that were given either a placebo or 15mg of zinc for six months, in the form of a powder sachet that was dissolved in water. They proceeded to measure the baseline height of the subjects and compared the data with that obtained post- treatment. The results of this study showed that there was a significant increase in growth in the zinc supplemented group versus the placebo control group. However, the sample size was quite small, which can amplify the results of the study. Moreover, the participants" ages ranged from approximately 6-13 years of age, which can distort the results because as children approach pubertal age, their growth rates tend to change.
