Masturbation is queer because it is incest, adulterous, gay, etc. The paradigm case of masturbation is perhaps only that the person who by touching sexually sensitive areas of the body causally produces the sensations is the same person who experiences the sensations touching oneself sexually. We could say that anything that doesn"t involve insertion of a penis is masturbation, but then all lesbian sex is masturbation and gay sex is not masturbation. We could say that anything that doesn"t involve insertion of the penis into the vagina is masturbation because such acts are unable to beget children. This situation would be solitary because y is absent from x"s sexual consciousness. This is plausible if what lies at the heart of solitary masturbation is the person"s effort to create sexual pleasure for himself.
