Influenced by highly centralized and bureaucratized chinese state. Viet and korean kingdoms absorbed chinese cultural influences while struggling to maintain their independence: small polities changes regularly, archipelagic southeast asia: Kinship religious ties rather than bureaucratic structure or territory control. The base, scale, and types of political organization were different across the region, and so were the modalities of legacy.
