Document Summary
Some globulins, like immunoglobulins or antibodies, are synthesized and secreted by specialized cells rather than by the liver o: presence of proteins in plasma makes osmotic pressure of blood higher than interstitial fluid (cid:224) water pulled from interstitial fluid into capillaries. Macrophage: monocytes that left circulation to enter the tissues: neutrophil: white blood cell that ingests pathogens and release cytokines, eosinophil: leukocytes associated with parasitic infections and allergic reactions, basophil: leukocyte that releases histamine, heparin and other chemicals for immune response. Blood cells are produced in bone marrow: hematopoiesis: synthesis of blood cells, as embryo develops, blood cell production spreads from yolk sac to liver, spleen and bone marrow, in adults, only areas producing blood cells are the pelvis, spine, ribs, cranium, and proximal ends of long bones, active bone marrow is red because it contains hemoglobin (oxygen binding protein)
