Like flow state- mastery of a skill- perform it automatically, no need for much executive functioning: support: Social-cognitive theory: beliefs and expectations contribute to increased suggestibility: expectations experience, response expectancy: individual believes will hurt more, respond that procedure hurt more, support: Brain areas related to executive functioning- stronger connections in more hypnotizable people > less hypnotizable people. Has promise, esp. when combined with proven beneficial medical treatments.
