Self-actualization: reaches his/her full potential as a creative, deep-thinking, and accepting person. Objections: idea that we must fulfill 1 need before moving on to next- too simplistic. Some people are willing to sacrifice safety (more basic) for love (more complex: biased toward an individualistic (western) culture. Self-actualization (an individual"s drive to achieve his/her goal), whereas collectivist (eastern) cultures value that community, not just individual, is successful. Need to belong: motivation to maintain relationships that involve pleasant feelings of warmth, affection, appreciation, and mutual concern for each other"s wellbeing: permanence- most important aspect. Social connectedness- heavy implications of physical & mental health. Romantic love: comprised of 2 components: passionate love & companionate love. Passionate love: physical & emotional longing for the other person. Companionate love: tenderness & affection we feel when our life is intertwined with another person: long-term stability component of relationships.
