Document Summary
Hypnosis is a procedure of inducing a heightened state of suggestibility it is not a trance hypnotist suggest changes, and the subject is more likely to comply. Hypnosis is based on an interaction between: automatic (unconscious) thoughts and behavior, a supervisory system known as executive processing. Dissociation theory explains hypnosis as a unique state in which consciousness is divided into 2 pars: an observer and a hidden observer. Executive processing is required when a behavior requires conscious awareness. The more a behavior is done, the less executive processing required. Hidden observer is the part of the individual that is paying attention to the task. The hypnotist acts as the executive, guiding the behaviors that feel automatic. Hypnosis is used to treat a number of different physical and psychological conditions: used in conjunction with other psychotherapies such as cognitive- behavioural therapy (cbt).
