Module 13. 1: power of the situation: social influences on behaviour. Person vs. system, who is to blame for bad behaviour, we must consider the situational explanation for evil. Social psychologists study the interaction between person and situation, focused on moment that something occurs. B = f(p, e: analyze the forces operating in the situation and determining which forced to change. Mimicry: taking on for ourselves the behaviours, emotional displays, and facial expressions of others. Coordination of behaviour is key part of getting along with eachother. Some behaviour and communication occurs through explicit levels of consciousness, most is at unconscious level. Motor systems (cerebellum) ties together subtle physical coordination with emotional functioning. Social norms: usually unwritten guidelines for how to behave in social contexts (govern much of our behaviours) Low efficacy beliefs, disbelief in importance of one"s contributions, not caring about outcome, not feeling that others are trying hard enough.
