PSY202H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter 13: Repeated Measures Design, Effect Size, Sphericity
Document Summary
To evaluate diferences between 2 or more sample means obtained from a repeated measures research study: study changes over ime. Independent measures = study uses separate sample for each treatment condiion being compared. Hypothesis is the same as single factor anova: h0 = mu1=mu2=mu3 (all treatments have same efect, h1 = at least one treatment mean is diferent than the other. Individual diferences: paricipant characterisics like age, personality, gender that vary from person to person: part of variance in numerator and denominator for independent measures but these are eliminated for the repeated measures. Exact same paricipants in all of the treatment condiions so mean diferences between treatments cannot be explained by individual diferences. Paricipant acts as own control: more economical, homogeneity of variance is not a problem 2 populaions being compared must have same variance. Order / pracice efects: given order might make a diference due to pracise on diferent tasks (more comfortable and more proicient)
