Document Summary

Cognition the mental processes such as perception, attention, and memory that are what the mind does. Franciscus donders conducted the first cognitive psychology experiment in 1896. He was interested in determining how long it takes for a person to make a decision. He did this by measuring reaction time how long it takes to respond to presentation of a stimulus. Simple reaction time press the button as fast as possible when the light goes on. Choice reaction time push the left button if the left light goes up, push the right button if the right light goes up. He said that the difference between one"s simple reaction time and choice reaction time is the time it takes for one to make a decision (since choice reaction time has the added complexity of making a decision). Most people took 1/10th of a second longer. Wilhelm wundt found first psychology lab in 1879.
