Document Summary
Chapter 12 sound localization and the auditory scene. Auditory space, when you perceive objects located at different positions based on their sounds. Three different dimensions: azimuth, extends from left to right, elevation, extends up and down, the distance of the sound source from the listener. Based on the difference in when a sound reaches the left and right ears. Itd becomes larger as sound sources are located more to the side: effective cue for location of low-frequency sounds. Provides ambiguous information about the elevation of a sound source: cone of confusion. If the sound comes from the right, the signal from the right ear has a head start so both signals reach a neuron (to the left) simultaneously. Neurons that respond best when sound is coming from the left and neurons that respond best when sound is coming from the right.
