PSY320H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter N/A: Nonsense Word, Agreeableness
Document Summary
Mere exposure enhances your attitude towards an object/person. Social interaction enhances the attitudes of interactors toward each other. Though mere exposure was yet to be studied. Words that stand for good, desirable, and preferred aspects of reality are more frequently used. The increased use of a nonsense word increases its rating on the good-bad scale. Antonym pairs were obtained for 154 words. Even words which are not generally seen as favourable (on, above, add, etc. ) were ranked more positively by large amounts. The preferred words were the most frequent words. The agreeableness should increases between antonym pairs good-bad, better-worse, and best-best, but good is more commonly used compared to better, and is tended to be rated higher. There is a correlation between length and frequency of words, with longer words being used less often. Some evidence of positive meaning for exposure in literature.
