Judgement under emotional certainty and uncertainty: the effects of. Tiedens and linton: emotions characterized by certainty appraisals promote heuristic processing whereas emotions characterized by uncertainty appraisals result in systematic processing, people engage in more systematic processing when in a negative mood. Positive affect signals safety, and so a general knowledge is used: mood as input approach says that positive affect signals that one has sufficient information to make a judgement. Specific emotions, appraisals, and appraisal congruent judgement: appraisal theories show that certain situations evoke certain emotions (anger other blame), this article focuses on the certainty-uncertainty appraisal dimension. Certainty in that they understand the current situation: appraisal congruency suggests that the certainty associated with emotions should affect people"s certainty in subsequent situations. Certainty-associated emotions should lead to more certainty in subsequent judgements. Certainty and processing: people who chronically feel uncertain process information more systematically, as do depressed individuals.
