Ability to communicate is extremely important in every area of life. The ability to communicate well and to give a public presentation can lead to big changes and successes. All big movements started with at least one person who wanted to get a message across and made the effort to do so. Freedom of speech had to be fought for by women; in the 17th century, women who spoke freely/publicly could be dunked in any body of water, and would be dunked further until she decided to stop talking. At that time, women in boston who spoke in religious or political meetings could be gagged; Presentation of speed by a woman was considered unwomanly, and was ridiculed, scorned, and humiliated. In the 18th and 19th century, a rumor was spread that women who insisted on speaking publicly would become infertile.
