Psychotherapy: a psychological intervention designed to help people resolve emotional, behavioural and interpersonal problems and improve the quality of their lives. 20% of americans have received it and 4% are currently in it. Gender, ethnic and cultural differences in entering treatment. Women are more likely to seek treatment although each sex benefit equally. Asians and hispanics are less likely to seek mental health services than caucasians because of the stigma surrounding it. Clients who are better adjusted to begin with realize that they may be contributing to their problems, and those who are motivated to work on those problems are more likely to improve. Paraprofessionals: person with no professional training who provides mental health services. Likely to be warm and direct and to establish a positive working relationship with clients and tend not to contradict clients. Insight therapies: acquiring understanding (16. 3, 16. 4, 16. 5 & 16. 6)
