Cognitive therapists believe that the way we think about events determines how we respond. The role of the cognitive therapist is to fix faulty thinking. Typically aims to achieve positive therapy outcome within 15 sessions or less. Focus on current problems rather than problems from the past. Illogical cognitions are identified, then challenged, and eventually replaces with more logical conditions. This type of therapy does not delve into unconscious thoughts as deeply as psychodynamic therapy, but it does acknowledge that some thoughts are automatic (these thoughts can become so routine and habitual that they are hard to recognize)
