Explains the why and how: qualitative research = research methods that aim to explore rather than measure, various phenomena, often through forms of observation such as interviews, focus groups, and direct participant observation. Ethnographic fieldwork = research method which sociocultural anthropologists have intensive. It may involve use of both quantitative and qualitative methods, including interviews, participant observation and survey-based research. This is the principle research method used within the discipline. It involves learning the language in order to communicate properly and directly without the use of translators: rapport = a feeling of affinity, friendship, and responsibility between an anthropologist and an informant.
