Sexual atracion to (or sexual relaions with) persons of the same sex. The biological and psychological makeup of an individual. The idenity a person takes based on his or her sexual preference. The social insituion under which a man and woman, or partners of the same gender, live as husband and wife by legal commitments and establish a claim to sexual access to each other. The bond between a man and a woman who are married. The prohibiion of sexual relaions between speciied individuals, usually parent-child and intersibling relaions at a minimum. The removal of all or part of a female"s genitalia for religious, tradiion, or socioeconomic reasons. Someimes known as familiarity breeds contempt, this explanaion suggests that long-term associaion with family members discourages sexual interest. Incest taboos are an atempt by ofspring to repress their sexual feelings toward their parents of the opposite gender. Inbreeding is forbidden because cultural groups recognize the potenial for impaired ofspring.
