Individuals: objects described by a set of data. 2 by 4 is also an experimental unit or sampling unit and a variable of it would be breaking strength. Quantitative: something counted or measured and then averaged, subtracted, added across a population. Categorical: something that falls into one of several categories, what can be counted is the number of individuals in each category: ex. Tells us what values it takes and how often it takes these values. Distribution of categorical variables displays count of percent of individuals that falls under each category. Bar charts: for categorical variable to give visual display of relative sized of each category. Pie charts: used for categorical variables to give visual division of whole. Pie must include all the categories that makes whole. Useful only in relation to the whole. Are quick and dirty histograms that can easily be done by hand, therefore, very convenient for back of the envelope calculations.
