Globalization w/o home economics: lecture 5 reading 1! Home ec has been compliant in the margins of society: The approach using the master"s term does not succeed bc it guarantees that the dominant paradigm prevails. Exs w/i history: attempts to scientize women"s knowledge by use of terms like domestic science and home science, to the use of mngmt language like home management, and envmtl terminology such as human ecology. This is compliance (accepting rules of patriarchy) and trying to gain power by using the trademark tools of dominance privileges those power structures in society, reinforcing the assumptions about dominant value and power. Home ec has failed to realize the tools of patriarchy polar dualisms ex: black/white, instead acting compliantly. In a modernist power regime: ppl who engage in home ec have been marginalized bc its characterized as womens knowledge, for the private domain of the homehas repressive effects.
