Document Summary

Cells (basic & functional units of all organisms)= carry out essential processes of life. Respond to change in external environment by changing internal reactions. Almost all bacteria and archaea, some protists (amoeba and fungi; yeasts) are unicellular. All capable of carrying out essential activities for life. In multicellular organisms (animals and plants), activities of life are divided over varying numbers of specialized cells. If cells break open, property of life is lost thus being unable to grow, reproduce, respond to stimuli in coordinated, independent fashion. Life as we know it doesn"t exist in units simpler than individual. All groups of life are grouped into 3 domains: bacteria, archaea and eukarya. Most cells are too small to be seen by unaided eye (humans can"t see objects small than 0. 1mm in diameter) To see cells/structures, microscopy (technique for producing visible images of objects too small to be seen by eye; microscope) is used. Bilayer made of lipids with embedded protein molecules.
