We need method for comparing any number of means. We could use the 2-sample t test several times. Problem of multiple comparisons: how to do many comparisons at once with. Maybe significant if we compare just 2 groups but not all 3. Problem of multiple comparisons: how to do many comparisons at once with overall measure of confidence. Overall test: see if there is good evidence of any differencesamong parameters. Follow up analysis: to decide which parameters differ and estimate how large differences are. Null hypothesis: there a no differences among means weights for all experimental populations. Ha: not all of 1, 2 3 are equal. Nondirectional: cannot be one or 2 sided because it allow any relationship other than all 3 equal. Ha includes 2 = 3 but not 1. Analysis of variance f test: testing h0 against ha. Anova f test: assesses evidence for some difference among population means.
