Document Summary
In 1795, a meteorite fell in england and was witnessed by many people: the rock was recovered, studied thoroughly, and was accepted by many scientists as a sample from space. Moon: certainly, some would have been scattered by the planet shuffle that was described in unit 2, and may account for quite a significant proportion of the asteroids that participated in the late. It has happened in the past (66 million years ago a large asteroid impact helped kill off the dinosaurs and about 70% of all species living on earth: there are sources of meteorites other than the asteroid belt. If an asteroid slams into mars or the moon with considerable force, chunks of the surface will fly off into space, and some gets trapped in earth"s gravitational field: so, we have meteorites from both mars and moon. It is hard to get anything from venus.
