Bounded by quebec on the east: manitoba on the west, hudson and james bay on the north, st lawrence river and the great lakes on the south. Manitoulin island: worlds largest freshwater island, located in georgian bay. Over 13 million people live in ontario. North part of ontario covers around 87% of land: but south part of ontario contains 94% of the population. Three main geographical regions: thinly populated canadian shield. Rich in minerals and studded with lakes and rivers: unpopulated hudson bay lowlands. Very swampy and sparsely forested: post populated southern ontario. Agriculture and industry are very concentrated here. South ontario is then further divided into four regions. Golden horseshoe: western end of lake ontario stretching to. Southern end of lake erie and north to georgian. In 1990 it was designated a world biosphere reserve by unesco: making it 1/12 in canada. Ontario has three main climatic regions: moderate humid continental climate. Meaning lots of snow in the winter.
