Geography 2330A/B Chapter Notes -Seafloor Spreading, Tectonic Uplift, Pediplain
Document Summary
Rocks are stable in the environment in which they are formed and then turn unstable once they are removed from that environment. Attack on rocks = denudation = overall degradation and levelling of continental land mass it is achieved via weathering, mass wasting and erosion. Tectonic uplift mobilizes potential energy in the landscape; higher the land surface the higher the potential energy. Sun runs denudation in form of hydrothermal and biological conditions of weathering. Geomorphic systems transform earth surface material and energy from one state or condition to another. Observed in sediment loads in streams, changes in coastline location, landslide volume or glacial excavation. Ideas moved from the cycles listed above to a more morphogenetic bases. It is assumed that climatic events lead to the creation of morphogenetic maps. It is also assumed that landforms are created via a number of different processes .
