Richard lamm said old people have the duty to die extremely ridiculed. People are worried that by legalizing physician assisted suicide, people will get the idea that they have the duty" to die. Some cultures, duty to die is expected dismissed as irrelevant in modern culture. Costs of prolonging life after we are unable to care for ourselves are staggering. Agree there is a duty to refuse life-prolonging treatment. Would have no duty to die if i preferred to live as choice would not impact anyone else. Who can best decide that: only important thing is whether the patient wants to live like this, and whether they think they would be better off dead. Many old people say their one remaining goal in life is to not remain a burden to their loved ones: young people feel this way too.
