Peter singer believed that we must take animal suffering seriously. Speciesism the act of dismissing suffering just because it is happening to animals and not humans. Francione argues that those who want to improve animal welfare are misguided. Our approach to animal ethics has been that it is okay to use animals if we treat them fairly. Modern animal movement is stuck in the paradigm that they don"t challenge the use of animals but engage in compassionate consumption. We have to do a better job on humane treatment. Abolitionist approach states that we cannot justify any animal use and humane treatment is a fantasy and is impossible. It means that we shouldn"t inflict suffering for pleasure, amusement or convenient (97% of our animal use) Making decisions based on pleasure or fashion sense. Use of animals in experiments is not transparently frivolous. The solution to this is to all go vegan we kill 56 billion animals for food.
