There have been concerns of young men in particular who spend most of their leisure time hanging out in the streets leading to more reports in vandalism, under-age drug use and under- age drinking. The hamilton experiment has occurred in scotland where there is a curfew for youth under. 16 living in public housing, which also allows police to confiscate alcohol from anyone under. 18 and anyone over 18 intending to share it with someone who is underage. Campaigns for alcohol treats have been banned while media has had a response of moral panic. Culture refers to shared stocks of values, ideas, knowledge, and systems of meaning that are held by social actors in the construction of reality. Previous studies demonstrated a high correlation between rates of illicit drug use, smoking, and drinking with low self-esteem, academic ability, and lack of commitment to school.
