Document Summary

Topic 4 - the autonomic nervous system (terminology) Autonomic ganglion where the synapse occurs in the autonomic motor pathway. Autonomic motor neurons neurons that conduct nerve impulses from the cns to smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and glands. Autonomic motor pathway consists of two motor neurons: preganglionic neuron (myelinated) from the cns to the autonomic ganglion, to the postganglionic neuron (unmyelinated). Horner"s syndrome occurs when there is dysregulation in activation of the sympathetic chain - causes a hyperregulation of the sns. Postganglionic axon innervated by acetylcholine & is longer while using norepinephrine to innervate the effectors. Postganglionic neuron unmyelinated neurons that are entirely outside of the cns, exit the ganglion, and synapse upon effector organs. Preganglionic axon myelinated, and short because they only have to get to the chain where the synapse occurs.
