Law is the body of rules that can be enforced by the courts or by other government agencies. Is the rule legitimate and did the person who enforced it, have the right to enforce it: quebec practices civil law and the rest of canada practices common law. Substantive law - rules governing behaviour (what you should and must do) Procedural law - how the legal process works; process for enforcing someone to do what they"re supposed to do: who gets to have evidence and use it in court, who gets access to some things. Public law - regulates our relationship with government: paying taxes for example. Judges can fight this though if they distinguish cases on facts. Legislative law has the word "act" or "code" in it"s name and written in italics and paragraph form: there can be federal and provincial pieces of legislation.
