Social safety net is a network of national, provincial, and territorial social programs. insurance, known as medicare, which is funded by general taxation. This is still needed to protect the most vulnerable members of canadian society. A key component of the social safety net is the provision of hospital and medical. Sustainability considers long-term maintenance and invokes creation of (cid:498)standards of health human resources, infrastructure, clinical outcomes and fiscal capacity(cid:499). Europeans in 15th century brought infectious diseases that flourished under poor. For years, care was limited to essential services (insane persons, epidemics). Permanent board of healthcare did not exist, therefore family was responsible for sick ones. 1867, 4 original provinces (quebec, ontario, nova scotia, and new brunswick) took responsibility for health, education, and social services. As more disease came to canada, the nurses working directly with the poor in the community became the first public health nurses. By (cid:883)(cid:891)(cid:884)(cid:882), voluntary agencies formed (cid:523)red cross, children"s aid, etc. (cid:524)
