Whistleblowing: making public matters that organizations have ignored or wish to keep hidden but which constitute a significant wrong or an immediate danger: whistleblowing might be done in response to an endangerment of the public or it might be done to protect employees or others affected by the organizations disregard for their safety or well being, few protections exist for whistleblowers in the private sector, laws (textbook references canada) act as deterrents to the raising of corporate issues construed to be detrimental to the public interest because of the very real possibility of legal action, whistleblowing is a matter of judgment, many professionals believe that there are some circumstances in which it is mandatory to blow the whistle, but given the personal losses of those who do so, it seems clear that this is a matter that calls for moral judgment rather than clear requirements.
