Pluralism: the belief in or commitment to diversity or multiplicity; or the belief that power in modern societies is widely and evenly distributed. The view of the state are traced back to political thinkers such as thomas hobbes and john locke. Their concern was to examine the grounds of political obligation - grounds on which the individual is obliged to obey and respect the state. State of nature: a society devoid of political authority and of formal (legal) checks on the individual; usually employed as a theoretical device.
