Ideologies are born of crisis and attempt to explain the puzzling/problematic features of people"s lives. Two main aspects of green politics: critique of the key assumptions underlying ideologies that dominate modern politics, offers a more positive and hopeful vision of human beings" relation with the natural environment and with one another. Liberal capitalist and communist societies share an anthropocentric or humanistic bias. Little difference between communism and capitalism (their ideologies are heedless of the natural environment) We need to devise an alternative ideology that respects nature"s system. Consider their perspective an ethic, not an ideology. Emphasize the web of interconnections and mutual dependence within species (elemental truths) can be learned from the natives. We have an obligation to respect and care for the conditions that sustain life recognize extent of human power and effect on world. We all must be stewards of the earth. Time horizon = how far ahead people are thinking when they decide what to do.
