Document Summary

Encoding failure: sometimes we fail to transfer information into the long term memory and thus lose it after a while this is not forgetting . Much of what we sense is not converted into long term memory. Even though we see things every day, this does not mean that we encode them into our brains sometimes we notice information but fail to code it because we turn our attention to something else. When exposed to violent or sexual tv programs, adults recalled less of the adds when they were exposed to the violent or sexual programs than if they were neutral. Decay of the memory trace: from encoding storage. Decay theory: (early theory) proposed that with time, and disuse the physical memory trace in nervous system fades away. Not used because we don"t know what a physical memory trace is/ how it is measured. Recently: neural circuits changing with long term memory formation.
