The autonomic nervous system controls involuntary nervous actions (glands, smooth muscle heart, blood vessels, stomach lining and intestines controls respiration, circulation and digestion. Motivation, behavior and stress response the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Sympathetic: activation or arousal function acts as a total unit (example: fight or flight response)
