Black kids showing poor grades and therefore being discriminated against: they don"t get jobs because they"re black but the justification is that they are stupid. Head start: initial results: head start children performed no better in school than others, even after slavery ended, black people lived in poor neighbourhoods (ghettos, the teachers at black schools were sub-par and not committed. Abecedarian program: majority of participants were black, intervention from 6 months to 5 years, focused on cognitive skills: solving problems. At age 15, their iqs were measured to be 20 points higher than normal kids. Late training (5 years - 8 years) had little effect. These kids are in school for the day, and this program is for after school. Stressors: eliciting stimuli, or events that place strong demand on us. Stress is also a response that has cognitive, physiological, behavioural components. Stress is a person-situation interaction, transaction between organism and environment.
