Document Summary

Chromosome- tightly coiled molecule of dna that is partly covered in protein, dna is the genetic material that carries the genes. Every cell in the human body, except one type has 46 chromosomes. The exception is the sex cells that has 23. Our physical development of the nervous system is in large part directed by an elaborate genetic blueprint passed on to us by our parents, these biological characteristics set limits on our behavioural capabilities. Our genetic endowment combines with environmental forces to determine our behavior. Dominant- gene that, when present, will produce a specific characteristic. Recessive- gene that, when present, will not show up. In recombinant dna procedures researchers use specific enzymes to cut the long threadlike molecules of genetic dna into pieces, combine them with dna from another organism, and insert the new strands into a host organism. Inside the host, the new dna combination continues to divide and produce many copies of itself.
