Psychology is the scienti c study of behaviour (observable) & mind (thoughts & feelings) Clinical psychology = study of mental disorders. Cognitive psychology = study of mental processes: ex: consciousness, attention, memory etc. How our mental abilities change throughout our life span. Ppl"s behaviours in the work place & the in uential factors. How different personality traits relate & in uence behaviour. Must collect empirical data by manipulating & observing people under a systematic condition. We often mix in our intuitions (personal judgements based on experience) & generate misconceptions during everyday life. Fail to test our own beliefs any further, aka con rmation bias . Use scienti c approaches to minimize bias & inaccuracy. Uses instrument (video, recorders, brain-imaging) to record, & then compare datas w/ other scientists. Scienti c progress = evolution (changes) in knowledge. Crit. thinking = taking an active role in understanding, & re ecting on information"s meanings.
