Achievement tes t: designed to find out how much they have learned so far in their lives. Pro: usually a good predictor of future performance in a similar situation. Con: assumes everyone has had the same opportunity to learn the material being tested. Aptitude test : containing novel puzzle-like problems that go beyond prior learning and are thought to measure the applicant"s potential for future learning and performance. Con: difficult to construct a test that is independent of prior learning. Static testing: completely standardizing test environment so everyone is responding to the same stimulus and all that is being tested is their ability. Critique: reveals incomplete picture of person"s abilities by measuring only the products of previous learning. Standardization: development of norms (bell curve) and rigorously controlled testing procedures. Dynamic testing: standard testing followed up by the examiner giving the subject feedback, and then measuring their ability to improve and respond to feedback.
