Moivaion: a process that inluences the direcion, persistence, and vigor of self-directed. Insinct theory: an inherited predisposiion to behave in a speciic and predictable way when exposed to a paricular simulus. Incenives: an environmental simuli that pull an organism toward a goal. Ex. to a student, a good grade can be an incenive for studying. Expectancy theory: a goal-directed behaviour is jointly determined by two factors: the strength of the person"s expectaion that paricular behaviours will lead to a goal the value the individual places on that goal (incenive value) Extrinsic moivaion: performing an acivity to obtain an external reward or avoid punishment. Intrinsic moivaion: performing an acivity for its own sake because you ind it enjoyable or simulaing. Overjusiicaion hypothesis: giving people extrinsic rewards to perform aciviies that they intrinsically enjoy may overjusify that behaviour and reduce intrinsic moivaion. Need hierarchy: a progression of needs containing deiciency needs at botom and growth needs at the top (maslow)
