Learning: the process by which experience produces a relatively enduring change in an organism"s behaviour or capabilities: habituation, sensitization, exposure to stimulus, classical conditioning two stimuli associated with each other, operant conditioning consequence, cognition in conditioning. The search for mechanisms: behaviorists, cognitive perspectives, biological factors, cross-cultural psychology. Habituation: a decrease in the strength of response to a repeated stimulus: adaptive function not respond to familiar stimuli, not overwhelmed or exhausted, not the same as sensory adaptation. Sensory adaptation: decreased sensory response to constantly present stimulus. Habituation: learning in cns info still available if it becomes irrelevant. Sensitization: an increase in the strength of response to a repeated stimulus: eg. Startle reflex to sudden loud sound more sensitive to it afterwards. Classical conditioning: association of two stimuli, such that one produces a response that originally was produced only by the other stimulus.
