Habituation: a decrease in the strength of response to a repeated stimulus: adaptive function not respond to familiar stimuli, not overwhelmed or exhausted, not the same as sensory adaptation. Sensory adaptation: decreased sensory response to constantly present stimulus. Habituation: learning in cns info still available if it becomes irrelevant. Sensitization: an increase in the strength of response to a repeated stimulus: eg. Startle reflex to sudden loud sound more sensitive to it afterwards. Classical conditioning: association of two stimuli, such that one produces a response that originally was produced only by the other stimulus.
