Bipolar disorder: mood that is too low or too high, mania is a high mood that is excessive and is often accompanied by inappropriate and potentially dangerous behaviour. Shifts in mood, energy and ability to function: depression period: person may be immobile/unable to get out of bed, manic period: so full of energy. Symptoms include agitation, insomnia, changes in appetite, psychosis and suicidal thoughts. Feel very sad and very energized at the same time: bipolar disorder is frequently depicted in literature as the mental illness that rests between the boundaries of creativity and madness- this is not accurate.
