Baumiester"s three categories of self-experience: reflexive consciousness- self-esteem, interpersonal being- self- presentation, executive function- self-regulation. I feel that i"m a person of worth, at least on an equal basis with others . On the whole, i am satisfied with myself : characteristics of self-esteem. People have a stable global baseline self-esteem (average) where daily event cause one"s state self-esteem to fluctuate around this baseline. The point is that it is stable: differences between high and low self-esteem individuals (baumeister, 1998, hse know themselves better. What is the difference between those who have high and low esteem: hse more certain about self-knowledge. When lse are asked to rate themselves on a trait, they are less confident about their rating. They are taking longer to respond to questions about themselves: hse have more internally consistent self-knowledge. Lse fluctuations over time in the ideas about the self, self-ratings, specific responses.
